The college prepares students (Pass and Honours) for the +3 (i,II&III) Examination in Arts/Science/Commerce of the Sambalpur University
1. A candidate for the Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Science/Commerce shall be required to pass:-
(i) First University Examination,
(ii) Second University Examination &
(iii) Final University Examination.

2. B.A. Pass: A pass student shall offer one pass subject of 400 marks in addition to Compulsory and Elective papers. Each student shall offer two elective subjects consisting of two papers carrying 100 marks each. Subject with practical component shall have 75% theory and 25% practical.

3. B.A. Honours: A candiate in B.A. (Hons) shall offer an Honours subject carrying 800 marks and two elective subjects besides compulsory subjects. Each elective subject shall consist of two papers each carrying 100 marks. Subject with practical component shall have 75% theory and 25% practical. A student shall choose one of the following Honours subjects; Odia, English, History, Economics, Pol. Science.

4. A Candidate in B.A. (Honours or Pass) shall choose two elective subjects each carrying 200 marks (without any practical component) from among the following subjects.
Indian Polity, Economy, Landmarks in Indian History and Mathematics, provided that a student offering Political Science, Economics, History, Mathematics as one or more pass or Honours subject(s) shall not be allowed to take Indian polity, Indian Economy, Landmarks in Indian History and Mathematics respectively as his /her elective papers.

5. B.Sc. Pass: A candidate in B.Sc. (Pass) shall choose two pass subjects each carrying 400 marks besides compulsory and elective papers. Subjects with practical shall have 25% Practical and 75% Theory. There shall be two electives one major carrying 200 marks with two papers of 100 marks each & one minor carrying 100 marks.

6. B.Sc. Hons: A student shall choose an Honours subject carrying 800 marks, one pass subject carrying 400 marks, one minor elective carrying 100 marks and one elective carrying 200 marks consisting of two papers each carrying 100 marks beside compulsory papers. Subject (s) with practical shall carry 75% theory and 25% practical.

7. Minor Elective Papers: In science (both Honours and pass), a student with life science (Botany, Zoology, etc) as pass or Honours shall take one minor elective paper on Mathematics and Statistics
for Biology students carrying 100 marks where as the other students (of physical science) shall take Biology as minor elective carrying 100 marks.

8. Major Elective Papers: A B.Sc(Pass) student shall choose one subject as Major Elective from among the following subjects carrying 200 marks with two papers of 100 marks each (without any pratical component) Biotechnology, Non conventional Energy Resources, Industrial chemistry, Conservation & Management of Natural Resoueces, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics provided that a student (Pass or Honours) in any of the subjects like Life Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics as honours or pass shall not be allowed to offer corresponding subject as a major elective paper.

9. Elective subjects shall not carry any practical component.

10. A candidate shall offer one MIL Teaching facility only for MIL (Odia) is available.

11. Subjects : A (B.A. Pass) student shall have to offer any one of the following pass subject carrying 400 marks each subject to other conditions mentioned in the regulation :
1. History 2. Economics 3. Political Science 4. Odia
5. English 6. Philosophy 7. Education.

12. B.A. (Honours): An Honours student shall choose one of the following Honours subjects :
1. History 2. Economics 3. Political Science 4. Odia
5. English 6. Education & 7. Philosophy

13. B.Sc (Pass) - A (B.Sc. Pass) student shall choose any two of the following pass subjects each carrying 400 marks.
1. Physics 2. Chemistry 3. Mathematics 4. Botany
5. Zoology

14. B.Sc. (Honours): A (B.Sc. Honours) students shall choose any one of the following subjects as honours:
1. Physics 2. Chemistry 3. Mathematics 4. Botany
5. Zoology

15. (a) Compulsory subjects :
For B.A. - English I and II, MIL (O) I and II, Indian Society and Culture and Environmental Studies.
For B.Sc. - English, MIL (O) Environmental studies and Indian Soceity and Culture.

Draft regulation for the bachelor of Arts, Science and Commerce Examinations (three-year degree Course
UNDER CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM (CBCS)

(Effective for Students Admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science & Bachelor of Commerce with effect from 2016-17)


1.1 The three years Degree cource leading to the Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Science/Commerce (Honours) and Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Science/Commerce (Pass) of Sambalpur University shall comprise 6 semesters, carrying a total of 140 credits and 120 credits respectively. The total course is divided into 3 parts i.e. DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC CORE COURSES (DSC), ELECTIVE COURSES (EC) and ABILITY ENHANCEMENT COURSES (AEC).
The Elective courses are of 2 types, i.e., DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC ELECTIVE (DSE) and GENERIC ELECTIVE (GE). Similarly, the Ability Enhancement Courses are also of 2 types i.e. ABILITY ENHANCEMENT COMPULSORY COURSES (AECC) and SKILL ENHANCEMENT COURSES (SEC).

HONOURS
1. Core Course (Honours): 84 credits
2. Elective Courses : 48 credits (DSE-24, GE-24)
3. Ability Enhancement Courses: 12 credits (AECC-4, SEC-4)

Each theory credit carries a minimum 12 hours of teaching (each class of 1 hour duration) and each practical/tutorial credit carries a minimum 21 hours of instruction (each class of 3 hours duration)



Choices offered:
1 (One) Specific Core Course i.e. Honours from the list of subjects offered (14papers for DSC and 4 papers for DSE and 1 Paper for SEC-A)
1 (One) Generic Elective course from the list of subjects other than the course chosen for specific core courses (4 papers for GE)
1 (One) Skill Enhancement Course from papers offered under SEC List-B (1paper for SEC-B) and 1 (One) AECC (Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses), which should be either English or any M.I.L.


COURSES OFFERED
1. For Honours (Arts/Science)
Core Course (14 papers):

A candidate shall choose one core (honours) subject of 14 papers from the list provided in Appendix-A (for Arts) & Appendix-C (for Science).
Elective Course (4+4=8 papers):
He or she shall study one Disciplane Specific Elective course of 4 papers corresponding to the core course chosen above vide details Appendix-A (for Arts) & Appendix-C (for Science).
Again, He or she shall choose one Generic Elective course of 4 papers other than the Honours subject from Appendix-A (for Arts) & Appendix-C (for Science).
Ability Enhancement Courses (2+2=4 papers):
He or she shall have one Environment Studies Course and choose one Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course of one paper, which can be either English or an MIL.
He or she shall also have one Skill Enhancement Course from List-A of Appendix-A (for Arts) & Appendix-C (for Science) and the other one from List-B of Appendix-A (for Arts) & Appendix-C (for Science).

2. For Honours (Commerce)
The details shall be worked out as per the recommendations of the Board of Studies. He or she shall choose one skill Enhancement Course from List-B as per Appendix-E.
